Bathurst - Sister Alice Arsenault, r.h.s.j.
Sister Alice Arsenault, r.h.s.j. passed away on Sunday (May 22, 2011) at the infirmary of the Notre Dame de l’Assomption residence of the Religieuses Hospitalières de St. Joseph, Vallée Lourdes Drive in Bathurst at the age of 89 years and 6 months, in her 61st year of religious community life.
Born in Egmond Bay, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred Arsenault and the late Clara Leclerc.
Besides her congregation, she is survived by: Two sisters, Thérèse (late Placide Goguen), Rita (late Omer Poirier) of Moncton, three brothers, André (Bernice Gallant) of Moncton, Jérôme (late Jeanne Arsenault) and Léo, both of Ontario. Several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Joseph, Alcide and two sisters, Hélène and Marie.
Sister Alice Arsenault entered the order of the Religieuses Hospitalières de St-Joseph on the 20th of February 1949 and took her vows to the order on 22nd February 1951.
After her vows, Sister Alice worked at the admission office and reception in our hospitals in Sorel and Edmundston and also in the Sanatorium of Vallée-Lourdes. In 1964, she received the call from Mission work in Perou. During her 35 years as a missionary, she occupied several positions of authority in her local and regional orders. Sister Alice was admired by many of her sisters in Perou. Upon returning to Canada, she retired at the Maison Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption for a well deserved rest.
Visitations for Sister Alice Arsenault will be on Monday (May 23, 2011) from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Notre de l’Assomption Residence, 2144 Vallée-Lourdes Dr. Bathurst. There will be a Prayer Vigil on Monday evening at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be from the Religieuses Hospitalières Chapel, on Tuesday (May 24, 2011) at 2 p.m.
