The family is very saddened to announce the death of Leon (Kruger) Hachey, 80, of Riverside Drive Bathurst. Leon passed away on June 30, 2011 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Joseph and Alice (Doucet) Hachey.
Of the things that mattered to Leon, the most was his family. They always had his full attention, love and support - he loved it when everyone was together. Dad/Pappy was so proud of his children and grandchildren – his eyes lit up when he spoke of each of them. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren whether it was teaching them how to fish, taking them on the 4-wheeler or sitting and talking with them. Some of his happiest memories were of family outings at the camp. Leon was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. Kruger was a very kind man - he was always there to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbours, co-workers and family. He was employed at the former Smurfit Stone Containers for 35 years.
Besides his wife of 56 years, Bernice (Lavigne) Hachey, he is survived by: Three daughters, Nancy (Jacques) Dube of Moncton, NB., Connie Hachey of Halifax, NS and Paula McTavish of Bathurst; One son, Jamie (Tammy Lavigne) Hachey of Bathurst; grand-children, Melissa (Paul) Bochar, Jeremy Dube and Justin McTavish; One brother Aurele (Marg) Hachey, two sisters, Phyllis Taylor and Winnie Daley of Barrie, ON, and many members of his extended family who viewed him as a loving brother-in-law and uncle.
He was pre-deceased by brothers, Hector, Gerald, Edmund, sisters, Corinne Smith and Yvonne Bateman.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday July 5th at 11:00 am from Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bathurst. Donations in memory of Leon may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association or a favorite charity. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
