Bathurst, N.B. – We are very saddened to announce the death of Ronald Joseph Cavanaugh, of Veniot Ave., Bathurst, who passed away at Chaleur Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Doaktown,he was the son of Ethel Cavanaugh and the late James Cavanaugh of Blackville.
He is survived by his wife Judy(Ross), two sons Bradley of Halifax and Dean(Caroline) of Montreal. Four daughters, Cindy of Moncton, Candy and Tracy of Bathurst and Natalie Duguay of Beresford. Fiive grandchildren, Audrey, Julien, Brandon, Alysha, Katrine.
He will be sadly missed by brother John (Connie) and his sisters Joanne(Steve Sachs), Betty Ann (Ron Perry)and Barbara (Mick Coughran) along with his sisters-in-law Janice Ross, Carol Nesbit (Wayne), Ellen Underhill (Daryl) and Deborah Landau (Peter);brothers-in-law Gilbert(Jill) and Rodney(Debbie) Ross.
Ron began working at the Brunswick Mine in 1968 and has been a valued employee for 43 plus years. He is a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 5385 and has practiced his trade as an electrician for most of his working days at the mine.
In addition to his work at the mine Ron was a well known Bathurst business man whose company CAVCO Properties Ltd., has developed several properties in the city of Bathurst. Ron had a strong capacity for work and never expected more than he gave.
He was a great supporter of and organizer with the Bathurst Minor Hockey association, having managed several different teams over the years. He would have transported a generation of young men to most every arena in the province and also enjoyed watching them play on his backyard rink.
He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
The family will receive friends at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst on Thursday Sept 8th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday Sept 9th from 1 p.m until time of Funeral. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 9th at Holy Family Catholic Church Bathurst at 4 p.m.
Donations in memory of Ronald may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
