Bathurst – John Breckenridge, 76, of Bridge St., Bathurst, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (October 2, 2012) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Weston and Lulu (Dempsey) Breckenridge.
John worked for the former Consolidated Bathurst Paper Mill as a Millwright until his retirement. John was a Sunday school teacher and Board member at Evangel Pentecostal Church for many years, and through his ministry we know lives were changed forever. Since 2004, John had also been an active and passionate member of the Evangel’s Missions Team, bringing and showing God’s love to the people of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
In addition to his church ministry, John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in the woods. He shared his love of God’s creation with his whole family, as he felt at peace in the woods and in nature. His constant sources of joy in life were the moments he spent with his family.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Nellie (Allison) Breckenridge in 1964.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Allison) Breckenridge.
Five children: Robert of Chamberlain Settlement, Ross (Nathalie) of Bathurst, Rhonda Chiasson (Denis) of Ste Sabine, Qc, Roger (Elisabeth) of Moncton and Randy (Daniel) of Dartmouth, N.S. Nine grandchildren.
Two brothers: George Breckenridge (Rhoda) of Moncton and Ford Breckenridge (Edrie) of Bathurst. Several nieces and nephews.
The body will rest after 7 p.m. Friday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
Funeral Service will be held on Sunday (October 7, 2012) at 2 p.m. from the Evangel Pentecostal Church, Basin St., Bathurst.
Visiting hours are Friday from 7 to 9 and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
