South Tetagouche, N.B. - Stephen O'Neil, 62, of South Tetagouche, passed away peacefully on Friday January 23, 2015, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.

Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Lavigne) O'Neil.

He started his career as a Military Police in the Armed Forces and later joined the Bathurst City Police Force for 28 years until his retirement in 2007.

Besides his wife, Joan (Vienneau) O'Neil, he is survived by two children:  Stephanie O'Neil (Evan Killam) of Salisbury, N.B. and Kevin O'Neil (Jennifer Murty) of Bathurst. 

Four grandchildren: Chelsea, Caitlin, Kayla and Emma Joan and one great-grandson, Bentley.

Two brothers:  Randy O'Neil (Yolande) of Miramichi and Shane O'Neil of Sudbury, Ont.

One sister, Sandra Stever (Gordon) of Bathurst. 

Mother-in-law, Florence Pinette of Bathurst.  One aunt, Sally (Lavigne) Giest of Montreal.

Several nieces, nephews and he was an honorary grandfather and uncle to many.

He was pre-deceased by a brother, Bruce.

The family will receive relatives and friends after 2 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday January 28, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. 

Visiting hours are Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Wednesday from 2 p.m. until time of Funeral. 

Donations in memory of Stephen may be made to a charity or the donors choice.
