Bathurst - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gordon P. Pitre, 64, announces his passing on Monday April 13, 2015, at the ChaleurRegionalHospital, Bathurst, after a courageous battle with ALS.  He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Alex and Pearl (LaPointe) Pitre.

Gordie married his high school sweetheart, Jeannine (LaCroix) Pitre, 43 years ago and were lifetime residents to Bathurst living in their family home on Bishop Court.

Together they had three sons: Jason (Heather Dalton) of Oakville, Ont., Todd (Sharley Warren) of Fredericton and Jamie of Bathurst.

His sons were his pride and joy.

He also cherished his four grandchildren: Caleb, Noah, Jack and Jude. 

They held a special place in his heart.

He is also survived by three brothers: Gregory of Moncton, Gary (Doreen) of Saint John, Darryl (Paula) of Riverview; one sister, Donna Doucet (Peter) of Cochrane, Alta.

He was also a proud Godfather to five boys: Daniel LaCroix, Thomas LaCroix, Terry Lavigne, Claude Doucet and Dennis Young. 

Several nieces and nephews.

Gordon worked at GE for 20 years; Westburne for 2 years; and Eddy Group for 17 years.

Gordie was a dedicated Volunteer for many organizations including Scout Canada; Minor Hockey and Baseball; Choirs and committees at South Bathurst; Mount Carmel and SacredHeartChurches.

Gordie's main passion was the Special Olympics.  He was also a member and Volunteer of UCT Council 827; 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1935; and Bathurst Rotary Club.  He served on the City of Bathurst Planning Advisory Committee for 6 years.

Amongst the many awards he received throughout his life, his most cherished was the Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship Award he received in 2010.  He was also very proud to be a Torch Bearer for the 2010 Canada Olympic Games.  He was also an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan.

The family would like the express a heartfelt thanks to the Extra Mural Program(especially Monique and Nathalie), Palliative Care and Dr. B.B. Barnhill for all his years of compassionate and dedicated medical services to Gordie and especially grateful for the support of the family and friends.

The body will rest at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst on Thursday April 15, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Thursday, April 16, 2015 from noon until time of funeral. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday afternoon April 16, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew St., Bathurst. 

Donations in memory of Gordie may be made to the Bathurst/Chaleur Special Olympics; Extra Mural Program; ALS or a charity of the donor’s choice.
