It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Aubie, of Bathurst, announces his passing after a brief illness at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 1, at the age of 71.
Born in South Bathurst, he was the son of the late Doran and Sylvia (Boudreau) Aubie.
Donald was the loving partner of Annette Pitre; caring father to Charlene (Reg Fagan), Rachel, and Shawn, and proud Pépère to Kelsie, Kyle, Brandon, and Brianna, all of Bathurst.
Donald will be lovingly remembered by his six siblings: Walter (Hannah), Danny (Lori), Bernie (Norma), Irene Morais (Leo), Betty Ann LeBlanc (the late David), all of Bathurst, and Rose Marie Hosie (David) of Toronto. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Lorraine Aubie, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest and Herman.
Donald will be remembered for his charm, wit, and unwavering support for the Montreal Canadiens. In the summer, he could always be seen travelling around town on his scooter to get a double-double (aka double trouble) from Timmies. He loved to fish, and in his younger years enjoyed playing softball. A lover of music, he could often be heard playing guitar and singing along to one of his many favourite songs.
Donations in memory of Donald can be made to The Arthritis Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to express the utmost appreciation for the staff of the Intensive Care Unit for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Donald. Additionally, they would like to thank the staff of Brise de l'Oasis Manor.
As per Donald’s request, there will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 6th at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Family Church. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
