It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Mr. Gilbert Duguay husband of Maureen (Mahoney) Duguay of Packard St., East Bathurst, which occurred peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 74.
Born in Bathurst he was the son of the late Amédée and Irene (Chamberlain) Duguay.
Besides his wife of 50 years, he is survived by two daughters: Charlene (Michael) Colwell and Susie (Eric) Lavigne both of Bathurst and one son Denny (Sarah) Duguay of Calgary, Alb.
He will be greatly missed by grandchildren: Jordan Chamberlain, Jenna Chamberlain, Jeremy Chamberlain, Spencer Colwell, Brett Robertson, Sarah Lavigne, Jillian Lavigne and great-grandchildren: Aubrey MacLean, Stella Morrison and Vennah Chamberlain.
His is also survived by two brothers: Donald Duguay and Emery Duguay and one sister, Claudette (Omer) Godin.
He was predeceased by one brother, Clifford Duguay.
Gilbert was a Heavy Equipment Operator for most of his life and was employed by Kenny’s Asphalt and Doucet’s Landscaping for many years and upon retirement, for Chaleur Lines.
His greatest joy came from time spent with family and friends outdoors in his garage telling stories and giving wise advice to all. He loved his family with pride and admiration and will always be remembered by his loved ones for his courage, strength, love and guidance.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst on Thursday, November 1st from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday, November 2nd from 12 noon until time of funeral which will be celebrated at 2 p.m. from Holy Family Church.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and resp technicians of 2West 4East Extramural and Dr. E. Gionet, Dr. Cauchon, Dr. R. Theriault, Dr. Godin, Dr. Haché, Dr. J. LeBouthillier, and Dr. Parent for the excellent quality of care given to our father during his illness.
Donations in memory of Gilbert may be made to the New Brunswick Lung Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
