It is with great sadness that we, the family, announces the passing of Sergio De Candido, which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, on August 7, 2022, at the age of 92.
Born in 1930 in Italy he was the son of the late Felice and Lucia (Sbrizzi) De Candido. Sergio immigrated to Canada in 1950 where he worked in carpentry and road construction before becoming a heavy equipment mechanic. He retired from Brunswick Mines in 1995. He loved nature walks, fishing at Youghall Beach, old Western movies, and woodworking, often creating furniture out of scraps of wood. He also loved gardening and could be found admiring and fussing about it until his final days.
He was larger than life, and a generous and kind soul. He will be missed dearly.
He leaves behind his daughters: Barbara De Candido of Bathurst, Lucy Shorey (Winston) of Iqaluit, NU, Brenda De Candido of Gatineau, QC.
His siblings: Maria Venturin (the late Fiore), Pierina De Candido (the late Roberto), Giusepina Pianta (Orfeo) and Ugo De Candido (Lena).
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son Brian De Candido in 2020, the mother of his children, Claudette Doucet, his sister Antonia Zambon and a brother Giacometti DeCandido.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Chaleur Regional Hospital 2nd floor West for the care they provided.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday August 10th, 2022 at 4 p.m. from Holy Family Church.
Donations in memory of Sergio may be made to the Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
