It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Roy of South Bathurst announces his passing on Monday, October 24th, 2022 at the age of 73 at the Moncton Hospital with family by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Charlene (Kent) Roy, his three children Jason (Stacy), Trevor (Shauna), Kim (Justin), his five grandchildren Kyra, Brody, Cooper, Breton, Madison, and his brother Peter (Cecil). He was predeceased by his parents Elaine (LeBreton) and Arthur Roy in 1978.

Gordie was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved to laugh, share stories and give meaningful advice. He was known for his love of hockey, biking, walking and golfing (without keeping score). He had a solution to most problems and the patience and the kindness to share his wisdom. He was an active member of the community, serving as a city councillor for more than two terms, participating in multiple committees relating to the QMJHL, the Canada Games and the Waterfront Development. He had a long career in the mining industry where he took a keen interest in the health and safety field. He joined many industry boards and associations in order to highlight the importance of safety in the workplace from both an employer and employee perspective.

Gordie will be remembered most for his kind heart, dedication to the community and his family.

Family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, October 31st, 2022 at Elhatton’s Funeral Home in Bathurst from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

The service will be held on Tuesday, November 1st, 2022 at 11:00 am from the Holy Family Catholic Church in Bathurst.

In memory of Gordie a donation to the Moncton City Hospital Neuroscience and Stroke Program or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
