  •  Date of Death: April 29, 2024
  •  Location: Bathurst

Janet Edris “Edie” (McLauchlan) Power - age 84, of Beresford, NB, passed away on April 29th at Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, NB, with her loving family by her side.

Born in 1940 in Campbellton, NB, Edie was the daughter of the late Alice (Osgood) and Harry McLauchlan. Edie was also predeceased by her brother Burns McLauchlan of Campbellton. Edie is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Power, son Gregory (Jodi MacMillan) of Saskatoon, SK., daughter Nicole (James Cousins) of Toronto, ON., and her much-loved teacup poodle Tia.

Beginning their married life in New Brunswick, Edie and Bob moved to Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia where Edie worked for many years as a personal assistant to Mayor Ron Wallace of Halifax. During her time in Lower Sackville, Edie was a devoted supporter of the Knox United Church and generously volunteered her time to its finance committee and nursery school. In 2018, after 50 years in Nova Scotia, Edie and Bob decided to return to New Brunswick, making their home in Beresford on the beautiful Bay of Chaleur that Edie loved so much.

Edie will be remembered for her quick wit and love of animals, especially dogs, but it was her love and dedication to Bob, their children, and her mother Alice that knew no bounds and had no limits.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff of Chaleur Regional Hospital who worked so tirelessly to keep Edie comfortable and to support the family, as well as Rev. Neal Palmer of the First United Church, Bathurst, for his kindness and when it was needed the most. Following Edie’s wishes, cremation will take place. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations in memory of Edie may be made to either Knox United Church, Lower Sackville NS (by e-transfer to Donations@knoxsackville.ca or through Donate Now - KNOX UNITED CHURCH (canadahelps.org), First United Church, Bathurst NB (e-transfer firstadmin@nb.aibn.com or through First United Church | Charity Profile | Donate Online | Canadahelps, or to an animal rescue of your choice.  Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
