Bathurst - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Charles “Sammie” Hachey announces his passing on Sunday, July 21st, 2024, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, NB, at the age of 75.

Sammie was born in Bathurst, NB, to the late Henry Hachey and late Albina (Roy) Hachey.

Sammie worked for Moosehead Breweries and Atlantic Lotto until his retirement. A very humble man, Sammie was a true friend to all those who knew him. Whether it was on the ice surface, the pickleball court, or playing cards, Sammie was a competitor who truly enjoyed challenging himself and others, all while sharing a good laugh and a few quick-witted comments. In 1971, Sammie was a member of the Bathurst Alpine Papermakers who won the National Intermediate Hockey Championship.

Sammie leaves behind his spouse, Louise Ouellette; children: Jillian (Eric) and Derek; stepchildren: Helene (Zoltan) and Raymond (Paryse); and adoring grandchildren: Anna, Laura, Catherine, Maxime, Zachary, Sebastien.

Sammie was blessed to have an extended family who shared a special closeness and so many wonderful memories. He leaves behind four beloved brothers, one sister: Ernest (Jocelyne) of Moncton, Roland (Caroll) of Florida, Jeannine Degrasse (late Charles), Aurele (Susan), Paul (Sheila), and sister-in-law Patsy all of Bathurst. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who he treasured dearly.

Besides his parents, he is now resting with his brother, Lionel; brother-in-law, Charlie; and nephew, Marc.

A celebration of life for family and friends will take place on Friday, August 2nd, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the Paul Ouellette Room at the KC Irving Regional Centre.

Donations in the memory of Sammie may be made to a favorite charity.
