Betty McLean

  • Betty McLean 1936-2024

  •  Date of Death: October 23, 2024
  •  Location: Bathurst

The grandchildren and family of Betty (Elizabeth) Ann McLean are sad to announce her passing on October 23, 2024, at the age of 88 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, NB.

Betty was predeceased by her husband of 37 years Victor Newman McLean, her parents William and Vivian (nee Carey) Doull and her brother Dawson.

She is survived by her three children: Jody (David) Babin, Peggy McLean and lan (Amanda) McLean and her sister Mary Ellen Branch (Allan). Betty is also survived by three grandchildren who will miss her greatly: Melanie (James), Scott (Rohit) and Kaitie (Hubert), as well as extended family members.

Betty was born in Bathurst, where she lived for 88 years. She was an active member of Saint George's Anglican Church, the Red Hat Society and her social circle. Betty met Victor, an RCMP officer from Pictou, NS, in 1952 and then married in 1956. Betty and Vic's family were raised in Rough Waters and Brideau subdivision in East Bathurst. A large part of her career was spent working at Caribou Mines where she helped to establish the Bathurst mine site in the 1960s. She then spent her later years at The Royale, with great friends, overlooking the Bay of Chaleur.

Betty was always there for family and friends. Whether it was to share a recipe, lend an ear or catch up on the latest news with a cup of tea; all we had to do was call. Her grandkids always loved a pick-me-up-lunch on her ‘good china’, which was always ready in case the Queen came to visit.

As per her request, there will be a private family service. Memorial donations may be made to Saint George's Anglican Church or a charity of your choice.

We would like to extend a special heart felt thank you to the amazing staff of the palliative care unit at the Chaleur Regional Hospital.

Right now, there are tears, but in time we will remember Nan / Mom with smiles and memories made. All of us will remember the special way she touched our hearts and lives. It's time to enjoy the open arms of our family, ancestors, and friend’s past...the kettle is on, it's time for tea!
