In Loving Memory of Our Beloved Father
It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our cherished dad, who left us in his 87th year on November 9th. After the passing of his devoted wife Jeannine, last year, life felt a little too quiet without her, and now, he’s gone to be by her side once again—undoubtedly organizing something festive up above.
Dad was a true pillar of the community. He dedicated much of his life to working at the smelter in Belledune, where he served as Director of security and public relations—a role that perfectly suited his big heart and slightly bossy nature. He led with charisma, planned celebrations with contagious enthusiasm, and always knew how to bring people together. For him, no event was too big or too small to tackle (or take over).
He leaves behind his children: Jasmine (Mark Hodgson) from Millstone, New Jersey; Joëlle from Vevey, Switzerland, and Stephan (Sonita) from Robertville NB.
His two grandchildren whom he adored: Sacha (Christina), and Lola-Jade. Sacha, more than a grandson, was his summer cottage buddy and fellow sports enthusiast; they bonded over hockey, baseball, and big plans for a trip out West that Sacha will now take in Dad’s honor. And Lola, all the way in Switzerland, was the sparkle in his eye each summer when she visited. Two loving great-grandchildren: Ava-Rose and Dominic.
His brother-in-law Jean-Paul Morel (Ruth) from Shédiac as well as his goddaughter, Cyntia Morel from Singapore.
Hubert was predeceased by his wife Jeannine (Morel) Pouliot & daughter Michelle “Michou”
Outside of family, Dad’s two great loves were hockey and travel. He dedicated much of his life to sport, coaching players of all ages and inspiring countless young athletes. He also owned and operated HP Sports on King Avenue, where he sold sporting goods equipment, shared stories, and—famously—broke a cross-country ski pole while demonstrating with confidence that it could “definitely bend without breaking.” It was a moment that captured his spirit perfectly: bold, funny, and always willing to try.
His travels took him to many places, with the highlight being a safari in Kenya’s Masai Mara, where he met up with his daughter—a memory he cherished and talked about for years.
We’ll be gathering to celebrate his life this Friday November 15th, at Elhatton’s Funeral Chapel (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, honoring a man who gave us all so much love, laughter, and great stories. The family will welcome family and friends after 1 p.m. prior to the 2 p.m. celebration.
In Memory of Hubert, donations may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation of Canada
Rest easy, Dad— “BON VOYAGE” you were a one-of-a-kind leader, husband, father grandfather even if we didn’t always follow all your directions.
