Bathurst - Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Mallais, of Bathurst, passed away on Friday November 8, 2024, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, at the age of 74.

Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Florence (Aubie) Vienneau.

She leaves behind her spouse, Mathieu Richard.

One son, Denis Mallais (Joanne) of Bathurst. Two cherished grandchildren: Christie (Michael) and Adam.

One sister, Joan O'Neil of South Tetagouche.

Sister-in-law, Mona Couture of Bathurst.

Her last surviving aunt, Genny Aubie and several nieces and nephews.

Shortly after school, Betty moved from Bathurst to the Montreal area to find some work. She eventually came back to her hometown where she started her employment at NBTel. During this time, Betty settled in and started her family at the age of 23. From NBTel she moved on to work for the Coca-Cola bottling company in Bathurst for nearly 20 years.

After the company closed, Betty applied for employment at the City of Bathurst where she obtained her dream job as a 911 Dispatcher for the Bathurst City Police and BNPP Regional Police. This is where she got the opportunity to meet and flash her renowned beautiful blue eyes at her "man in a uniform" Matt. She proudly worked at helping and serving the community of Bathurst and its surroundings for 15 years until she retired in 2015.

She worked alongside her sister Joan during most of their employments. The two always remained close and inseparable.

Betty was part of the NB Women's Bowling League for 40 years and won many championships during the Ladies Provincial Tournaments with her teams the Road Runners and the Go-Getters. She also loved playing cards and bingo with friends.

Betty enjoyed life but most importantly she enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. Her love will continue to resonate with cherished memories of numerous voyages, unwrapping presents on Christmas morning with her family and special deliveries of home-cooked meals miles from home. These memories of joy, love and laughter serve as permanent reminders and a testament to Betty’s generosity, wisdom, kindness and shall continue to provide comfort for years to come."

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 2 p.m. from Elhatton’ s Funeral Home Chapel.

Donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
