We the family would like to announce the death of Brigitta “Briddy” Payne wife of the late Morley Payne, which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on Monday, December 30th, 2024, at the age of 98.
She was the daughter of the late Jan Hendrik Huetinck and the late Brigitta VanderMei-Huetinck.
Born in Amersfoort, Netherlands she came to Canada in 1947 as a war bride. After her husband’s passing, she decided to return to school and found a job at Eddy Wholesale, known as “Ma” to her coworkers she happily worked at Eddy’s until her retirement.
She is survived by two daughters: Joyce Payne of Holland Landing, Ont., and Thelma McLean (James) of Robertville.
Four grandchildren: Tanya Jagoe (Ryan) of Holland Landing, Ont., Erica Fisher (Rob Newton) of Bradford, Ont., Bailey Hachey (Sean) of Quispamsis and Joshua McLean (Elise) of Moncton.
Four great-grandchildren: Rebecca Jagoe, Sam Jagoe, Jake Jamieson, and Lincoln Hachey.
Last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by her sisters Cornelia (Rudolf) VanHedel and Nel Huetinck.
The family would like to thank the staff at Southern Comfort and Extra Mural for all the wonderful care given to Brigitta. A special thank you to Lynn and Laura and all the other nurses, (too many to mention and we don’t want to miss anyone’s name).
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held at First United Church, Bathurst on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, at 2p.m.
Donations in memory of Brigitta may be made to the Bathurst S.P.C.A, the First United Church or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home, Bathurst (www.elhatton.com).
