Bathurst - Mrs. Helen Margaret Hicks, 92, wife of the late Donald Hicks, of Sunset Dr., Bathurst, passed away peacefully on Friday (December 1, 2006) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.
Born on December 6, 1913, in North Tetagouche, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Angela (Riordon) Kelly.

Debbie (David) Sisk of Miramichi.
Three grandsons; Eben Hicks, Brody (Melissa) Sisk and Donald Sisk, great-grandchildren; Brendon and Lillian Sisk.
Her youngest sister:
Mary Czapranski of Scottsville, NY, USA
Numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Helen was pre-deceased by her brothers and sisters; Martin, Kay (McCarthy, Anne (Breese), Angela, John, Dan and Adrian.
Helen graduated form Teacher's College at the age of sixteen and taught in one-room schoolhouses in communities throughout New Brunswick including North Tetagouche, Black Rock, Benjamin River and Plaster Rock until 1951. Informal teaching continued with family and friends on a daily basis! Leading an active life, Helen loved the outdoors, loved to travel and garden, read constantly, enjoyed a good game of Scrabble (Squabble). Helen was a lifelong member of Holy Family Church and was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Women's League.
As well as a homemaker, she helped Donald run the family-owned business, Hicks Construction Ltd. She was a loving and caring aunt to all her nieces and nephews, especially to Martin's first five children who lost their mother at such a tender age.
Helen was a lively, witty person possessed of a your and loving heart all her 93 years. She will be loved and admired by all who knew her and she will be sadly missed.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhetton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday (December 5, 2006) at 11:00 a.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.
