Stymiest, Nancy Diane – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wife, Mother, Sister and Friend – Diane, of Bathurst; who left us peacefully on September 27, 2009. Born on September 30, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy (Dobson) Gilker of Campbellton, NB. Diane is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years Lorne, one son and two daughters. Shawn (Monica) of Bathurst, Shalene Losier (Gary) of Quispamsis, NB, Stacy Blair (Peter) of Calgary, AB. Nanny Stymiest will be deeply missed by 6 grand-daughters Olivia and Katie Stymiest; Casey, Taylor, Delaney and Loryn Losier; and 1 grand-son Joseph Blair.
She is also survived by one sister; Pat Burgess (Richard) of Fredericton, and two brothers; Brian Gilker (Ellen) of Boiestown and Reid Gilker (Audrey) of Cross Point, QC. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by one brother Michael.
Diane was an active member of St. George’s Anglican Church in Bathurst, participating in the ACW, Choir, Book Club and Bible Study. She enjoyed a lengthy membership in the Eastern Star. Diane especially loved to read and shared this passion with countless hours of bedtime stories and gifts of books for her grandchildren. Diane loved all types of music, and family members have many old country and gospel favorites etched in their memories and hearts after being lullabied since they were babies.
Diane enjoyed simple past-times like movies, comedy programs and searching evening radio for talk shows and news. A gentle and quiet soul; Diane could be counted on to lend an ear, give a shoulder or keep a trust and give very good advice. There will be an emptiness in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The body will rest after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday afternoon (September 30, 2009) at 2 p.m. from St. George’s Anglican Church, King Ave., Bathurst. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
