The death of J. Reginald Miller, Fredericton, N.B., has occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on September 25th, 2009 after a courageous struggle with the limitations of emphysema and cancer.
Reg was the son of the late J. Bert and Greta (Steeves) Miller of Moncton, N.B.. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lila (Skinner) and his siblings, Jack, Burton, Lloyd, Richard, Marilyn, Francis and infant sister, Margery.
He will be missed very dearly by his wife, Sadie (Turner); his two sons, Kirk of Florida and Jeff (Sue) of Calgary; four grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Jack and Steven; one sister, Rachael Stevens of Victoria, B.C., and numerous and cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
Reg's graduation from Moncton High School and Mount Allison University gave him many lasting friendships and cherished lifelong memories. He was employed over forty years in Bathurst, N.B. as Assistant Manager - Administration, Consolidated Bathurst / laterally, Smurfit Stone, Inc. He held various positions affiliated with the Pulp and Paper industry and Labour Relations. He was an active and devoted community citizen and enjoyed his opportunity to serve on the Board of Regents, Mount Allison University and more recently the New Brunswick Labour and Employment Board in Fredericton.
Reg will be remembered in so many and different ways. He was a man who held strongly to his principles and willingly shared his many strengths with family, colleagues and his many friends.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 1st, 2009 at 2 pm from the First United Church in Bathurst, N.B. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the continuation of the Reg Miller Award, Mount Allison University Advancement, 65 York St., Sackville, N.B., E4L 1E4, to the DECH Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are in the care of MacAdam's Funeral Home,Fredericton and Elhatton's Funeral Home, Bathurst.
