WILLARD PAYNE 1915-2010

It is with great sadness that the family of Willard (Willie) Payne announce his death which occurred peacefully at home on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the age of 94.
Willard born in South Tetagouche on October 29, 1915, he was the son of the late Robert and late Cora (Smythe) Payne.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen (Price) Payne.
One daughter, Eleanor Nicholson (Ensor) of Moncton.
One son, Robert (Maureen) of Bathurst.
His four loving grandchildren, Kimberly and Mark Nicholson,
Riley and Scott Payne with whom he shared a special bond, will especially miss Willard.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sister, Mary (Collins), brothers, Hubert and Claude (Payne).
Willard was a lifetime resident of South Tetagouche where he worked the family farm. For a number of years he was co-owner of Bay Chaleur Dairies and then manager of the Bathurst branch of Northumberland Co-op. He was a lifelong member of the St. George’s Anglican Church.
Willard was a friend to people of all ages. He was known as a good neighbor, hard worker and great entertainer. Many have tapped a toe to his fiddle music or been on the receiving end of his practical jokes. Willard loved animals of all kinds and appreciated nature and the outdoors.
Visitations will be held, Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Elhatton Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst,
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm Monday January 25, 2010, from St. Georges Anglican Church. Burial will be in United Church Cemetery, South Tetagouche in the spring.
