The family of Blair William Chamberlain announces his passing on April 12, 2010. He was born March 23, 1928, the son of the late Stella and Warren Chamberlain. He had just celebrated his 82nd birthday.
After graduation from Bathurst High School he worked at the former Consolidated Bathurst where he completed his apprenticeship as a pipe fitter. He retired after 43 years of service as a Pipe fitter Forman and Fire Chief.
In earlier years he was active in the local Pipe fitters Union having helped in the organization of Local 512.
As a member of the United Church he served on the Session and other committees. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #27 F.& A.M.
He loved sports, softball, bowling, golf and especially hockey. He was twice inducted into the Bathurst Sports Wall of Fame, first as a member of the Bathurst High School Hockey team which won the 1945 Maritime Championship. Secondly as a member of the Bathurst Papermakers on which he played from 1947 to 1955.
Upon his retirement in 1990 he remained very active and helped in the formation of the Seniors Skating group at the K.C. Irving Centre.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Betty Maltby, daughter Ann, sons Kenneth (Kathy), Robert (Ellen), Donald (Liz), Brian (Christine), Bruce (Joanne), Gordie (Nancy),
and a sister Joyce Beaven (Wilfred).
Grandchildren are Scott, Adam (Heather), Bradley, Erin, Luke, Sally, and Kathryn.
Niece and nephew Lois and David Beaven.
He was pre-deceased by daughter-in-law Beverly Miles-Chamberlain, step grandson Roby Miles and nephew Douglas Beaven.
Visitation hours at Elhatton’s Funeral Home will be on Wednesday April 14, 2010 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
A service will be held Thursday April 15, 2010 at 2 pm at the First United Church, St. Patrick Street.
Donations in memory of Blair may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Palliative Care Unit at the Chaleur Regional hospital or to a charity of your choice.
