Bathurst - Walter MacKay, 92, of Queen Elizabeth Dr., Bathurst, passed away on Sunday (April 18, 2010) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.
Born in Strathadam, Northumberland Co., NB, he was the son of the late William and Gertrude (Jones) MacKay.
He served with the Canadian Army in World War II in Canada and Northwest Europe and was a member of the Herman J. Good, V.C.Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge #10 and a life member of the Masonic Lodge #27 F&AM, Bathurst. He was also a Shriners and a former member of the U.C.T., Bathurst. He owned and operated the former MacKay's Pastry Shop in King Ave. for many years.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Edith (Dunnett) MacKay in 1981 and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife, Anita (Gauthier) MacKay.

He was pre-deceased by brothers; Albert, Richard, Osborne, Cecil, Willard, Arthur, Frederick, Percy, sisters; Bernice, Mary, Doris and Ethel.
The family will receive relatives and friends after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday afternoon (April 21, 2010) at 2 p.m. from the First United Church, St. Patrick St., Bathurst. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Donations in memory of Walter may be made to the Shriners Hospital or a favorite charity.
