PICOT, VERNON - At the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, on Tuesday, October 26, Vernon Picot passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He was 61 years old. Formerly residing at 590 Queen Street in his younger years, he lived for 31 years in special care homes and at the Foyer St. Bernard in Neguac. More recently he was transferred to the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes in Bathurst.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Hector and Adeline (Doucet) Picot. Vernon had Down Syndrome and attended the Flowers of Hope School as a child. He loved hearing the music that was always present in the musical Picot household. Vernon brought much joy to the lives of his family members. He will be fondly remembered.
He is survived by three sisters: Rita Duval (late Arthur) of Bathurst, Georgina Laporte (Emery) of Brossard PQ, and Isabelle Fitzpatrick (Ron Jessulat) of Bathurst. He is also survived by four brothers: Roger (Simone), Raymond (Barbara), Paul (Jackie), all of Bathurst and Leonard (Mary) of Delta, BC. He was predeceased by brother Alfred (Nicole) and sisters Marjorie Picot and Rose Marie Picot.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) in Bathurst. There will be no visitation. Funeral mass celebrating Vernon’s life will be held on Saturday, October 30 at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Avenue, Bathurst with Father Greg Culligan presiding.
