Daniel Sewell - of Pabineau First Nation passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 79, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Catherine (Peter-Paul) Sewell.
Daniel completed his schooling in Maine, US and returned to Canada in 1950. He worked for the Bathurst Paper and Power Company. He was a boatman on the Nepisiguit River and in 1956 joined the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry. Danny was also a guide for hunting and salmon fishing, councilor for Pabineau Nation (1979-1983), worked as a radio operator known as "Big Rocky", he was also instrumental in assisting in the youth organization with hockey and baseball on the Pabineau First Nation.
He is survived by: One son, Joey (Lauri) Sewell of Pabineau First Nation; two grandchildren, Morgan and Troy; one brother, Gilbert (Lauramae) of Pabineau First Nation; four sisters, Mary Stella Kryzko (late Mike), Hilda Spence (late George), Phyllis Ignacz (late Mike) all of Pabineau First Nation, Catherine Delong of Bathurst. Many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret John, a sister, Eunice Gene Sewell and a brother Lawrence Sewell.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 11 am from the Sacred Heart Cathedral with a reception to follow at the Pabineau First Nation Community Center.
