Bathurst – Gordon Fournier, 74, of Patterson Cres., Bathurst, passed away on Sunday (September 11, 2011) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Hector and Eula (Vienneau) Fournier.
Gordon was owner and operator of Fournier Van & Storage for twenty-eight years and also operated Fournier Sales and Service. In later years he had a catering business at École Académie Assumption and retired driving bus with school District Scolaire #5. He served one term as Counsellor for the City of Bathurst.
In his younger years he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his camp. He also enjoyed tying flies, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, baking, and many other hobbies. Gordon could always be counted on to help others whether it be carpentry work, mechanical repairs, snow removal, or woodsplitting, His strong work ethic and his willingness to help others will be remembered by many as he was always ready to help a friend. Gordon enjoyed visiting and joking with his friends at the local coffee shops and businesses.
He was very proud of his grandchildren’s academic achievements, and took pleasure watching them participate in sports. Gordon’s greatest joys were his daughters and enjoyed sharing their successes with others.
Gordon was predeceased by his wife, Iva in 1984.
Gordon is loved and remembered by children, Joanne of Edmonton, Alta., Darlene (Jim Lang) of Edmonton, Alta., Sandra of Bathurst, N. B. and Tina of Edmonton, Alta. Also survived by grandchildren, Tyler, Bradley, Nathan, Iva, Elizabeth, Emma, and Joshua. Brothers, Ronald (Murielle) of Moncton, N. B., Hubert (Sylvie) of LaPlaine, Que., Jim (Carmelle) of Bathurst, N. B., Danny (Pat) of Bathurst, N. B., Gerry (Debbie) of St. Stephen, N. B., and Peter (Lorraine) of Lively, Ont. Sister-in-law, Rose (James) Scott of Moncton, N. B. Several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday afternoon (September 15, 2011) at 2 p.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst, with a reception to follow in the Church basement.
