JOSEPH MARVEN BLANCHARD, passed away on January 18th 2013, at the Boundary Hospital, Grand Forks, B.C.
Marven was born in Bathurst, N.B., he enlisted into the Army in 1945, after graduating from Bathurst High School. He served for 25 years in R.E.M.E., including time spent with Peace Keeping Forces in Germany and Special Forces in Egypt. Marven advanced to the rank of Sergeant Major before he retired in 1970, he was an active member of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst, serving several offices, and later, served as President of the Lions Club. Marven’s passion was horses and he enjoyed his retirement years on his farm raising and caring for his beloved friends. Marven also liked to travel, therefore he explored Canada from the east cost to the west coast, where he gained diverse knowledge and many experiences. Marven was a great story teller, who lived life to the fullest.
Marven is survived by three children: Marie Beynen (Donald) of Woodstock, Ont., Sheila Roberts of Victoria, B.C. and David McIntosh of Grand Forks, B.C.
Two grandchildren: Julie and Paula.
One sister, Arnolda Nini of Bathurst, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents: Raymond and Irene (Boucher) Blanchard; one sister, Lois Bennett; one brother, Melvin E. Blanchard and one beloved grandson, Wesley Nikola Bilen.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday (July 5, 2013) at 11 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St. Andrew St., Bathurst. Donation in memory of Marven may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a favorite charity. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
