It is with deep sadness that the Gallagher family announce the passing of their father, William (Bill) Richard Gallagher, Bathurst, NB which occurred Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Robert L. Knowles Veteran’s Unit at the age of 94.

William was the son of William R. Gallagher and Ina (White) Gallagher and step mother, Lillian Couture Gallagher.

He is survived by his wife Muriel (Luce) Gallagher of 72 years and their five children; sons:  Kenneth (Janet) of Nackawic, NB; Stewart (Janice) of Palm Springs, CA; Glenn (Judy) of Bathurst; daughters:   Arlene Murphy (Patrick) and Brenda Gallagher both of Bathurst.

William is also survived by one sister, Rachel Showkowy (Peter) of Oshawa, ON and a brother, Earl (Evelyn) of Fredericton.  Also, survived by stepbrothers:  David (Linda) of Bathurst; Robert (Eunice) of Windsor, ON; Roger (Tina) MacGregor of Ontario and one stepsister, Marilyn of Colton, ON.

William was predeceased by one sister:  Blanche Hurst and brothers:  Bernard, who died in 1943 during the Second World War, and Albert (Rose Anne); Oscar (Hazel); John (Lorette); and Leo (Lyla)

He will be sadly missed by his 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, along with several nieces and nephews.

William served overseas during the 2nd World War with the with the 6th Regiment of the R.C.A,  103rd Anti Tank Battalion  and was a member of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18 Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst.  William was proud of his 42 years of service with the Bathurst Pulp Mill and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Bathurst.  He enjoyed the outdoors; he spent many happy days fishing/hunting and enjoyed umpiring softball in his earlier years.  Billy was always his happiest when he was surrounded by his wife and family.

There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date; being on Saturday, April  5, 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Church, Bathurst. 

The Gallagher family extends heartfelt thanks to the Staff of Robert L. Knowles Veteran Unit for their exceptional care and compassion they devoted to their dear father during his stay.

Donations in memory of William may be made to the Robert L. Knowles Veteran’s Unit or a charity of the donor's choice.
