1914 - 2014

Bathurst - Mrs. Margaret Dean Luff, 99, of the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes and formerly of Vantassel St., Bathurst, passed away on Thursday (April 10, 2014) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.

Born in St. John's, NL, she was the fourth child in a family of 4 boys and 4 girls, to George and Adeline (Taylor) Evans.  Her family home was a place of respect and obedience, but also great fun.

When Margaret was 19, she was asked to go to Badger, NL, to be the first Pastor of the small group of people there who had accepted the Gospel message.  There is a strong community of believers there today.  She also served the LORD in several other Newfoundland communities before making a trip to the mainland in 1939.

While on the mainland, she was asked to preach at some tent meetings in Stark's Corners, QC.  There she met Herbert Dean (a carpenter / contractor).  They were married the following year and God blessed them with three daughters.  Herbert passed away in 1957.  Years later she married Shelby Luff of Bishop's Falls, NL, who predeceased her in 2002.

Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was the dearly loved mother of Ruth Nuss (late Willard (2008)), Adeline Beaton (Donald) of Bathurst.  Cherished grandmother to Allan, Darlene and Tammy, great-grandmother of Samantha, Damion and Brandon and great-great-grandmother of Ryder.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Lois (1943) and a great-great-grandson, Hayden (2014).

For the past 4 years, Margaret has been lovingly cared for by the staff at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes Nursing Home who often heard her say... "The LORD has been so good to me" and sang "Jesus is the Sweetest Name I Know".

The body will rest after 2 p.m. Sunday at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.  Funeral Service will be held on Monday afternoon (April 14, 2014) at 2 p.m. from the Evangel Pentecostal Church, Basin St,. Bathurst.  Visiting hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
