1915-2014

It is with great sorrow that the family of Wilfred Leonard McKay announces his death at age 98 which occurred May 28th, 2014 at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home in Miramichi after a brief illness.

Born in Barryville, Northumberland County, he was the son of the late Wilfred M. and Isabella (Albair) McKay. 

As a young man, he worked in the forest industry eventually acquiring his own truck to haul logs and pulpwood.  After moving to Bathurst in 1964, he was employed as an equipment operator for the City of Bathurst until he retired in 1980.  During the years he lived on Chalmers Court in Bathurst he was maintenance supervisor at his apartment building until the age of 85.  

He is survived by one son, Donald (Nancy) McKay of Fredericton.

Two daughters: Geraldine (John) Gordon of Lower Newcastle and Diane (Earl) Pinette of Big River; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

One sister, Winnie Matchett of Miramichi and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (Gautreau) McKay; a daughter, Deborah Ann (Rejean) Boucher; four brothers: Munroe, Grover, Danny, Archie and six sisters: Reinnie McIntyre, Zina Fenelon, Dorcas Goodfellow, Ruby Young, Florence Diotte and Imelda Savoie. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 1st 2014 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 7 pm - 9 pm at HolyFamilyChurch in Barryville where the Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev Leon Creamer on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11 am.  Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery in Bathurst. 

In memory of Wilfred donations may be made to Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home or to a favourite charity. 

The family wishes to thank Dr. Arthur Losier and the staff of Mount St. Joseph for their excellent care.
