Bathurst, NB - DALEY (HORNBROOK), WYONA C. -– Wyona C. Daley, formerly of York St., Bathurst passed away at the Foyer Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Bathurst on Saturday, January 17, 2015 days before celebrating her 93rd birthday.
She is survived by her son, Dale and his wife Kathy.
One daughter-in-law, Carmel.
Six grandchildren: Darcie (Matt), Jennifer (Shawn), Stacie (Phil), Jill (Brendan), Chad (Candice) and Jeffrey (Carolyn).
Four great-grandchildren: Daeton, Danika, Olivia and Jorja.
She was pre-deceased by her best friend and husband of 69 years, Carson and two of their sons: Perkins and Dennis.
Wyona was the youngest girl and last surviving member of the large Hornbrook family from down shore and was a dear sister to: Anna, Thelma, Herb, James, Edrea, Nettie, and Jean.
Wyona was a proud, committed and stylish teacher. In her later years, so many of her care providers and visitors would recall Wyona teaching them, often grade four, and would always remark on the beautiful dresses she wore. Wyona will be remembered by her family for the years of generosity and unconditional love she gave, the jars of homemade cookies that never ran out and all misbehaving she allowed (better yet, that she encouraged!).
Wyona’s family are forever grateful for the care and friendship Connie Jagoe extended to Wyona, following the passing of her husband Carson a few years ago. Knowing that Connie was there to read, sing or set Nanny’s hair brought great comfort to the family.
Wyona was a respected member of the Bathurst community, a devoted wife and an exceptionally proud mother. Carson and Wyona enjoyed many adventures and traveled afar but they found the greatest comfort in each other's company, which they will now have once again in heaven. We will all Miss Nanny Daley’s amazing smile, beautiful blue eyes and warm laugh.
There will not be any visitation. Funeral service and a celebration of Wyona's life will be held at 2 pm Monday January 19, 2015 at Elhatton's Funeral Home Chapel, St. George St., Bathurst, (www.elhatton.com).
Donations in memory of Wyona may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
