1950 - 2015
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Peter Melanson, of Bathurst, would like to announce his passing after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer. Peter died peacefully at his home on January 22, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 64 years old.
Peter was born in Bathurst in 1950 to Paul and Hermance (Frenette) Melanson. He grew up in Bathurst with his two brothers: Bruce (Sandra) of Saint John, N.B. and Jimmy (Jacqui) of Vancouver, B.C.
Peter married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Aubie, 43 years ago, and together they had three daughters: Rachel Henderson (Damion) of Bermuda, Julie Melo (Adam) of Oakville, Ont. and Amy Black (Jeremy) of Fredericton, N.B.
His daughters were his pride and joy and he also cherished his six grandchildren: Sage, Mark, Ethan, Evan, Claire and Avery, they held a special place in his heart.
Peter was predeceased by his father, Paul three years ago.
Peter worked as a pipefitter in various places throughout his career, He was also the Business Manager of Local 512 from 1987-1999. He spent those years travelling to many places around the world with his wife and enjoying everything life had to offer. Peter retired in 2010 and looked forward to spending his free time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Peter loved being a handyman, building everything from decks to fences to dog houses, then taking them apart and building them again. He always kept busy taking pride in caring for his yard and home. His handy man skills were passed on to his daughters but will be forever missed.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at the Extra Mural Program for their compassion and loving care of Peter in the last few weeks of his life. A special thank you goes out to his favourite nurse Shirley.
Donations in Peter’s honour can be made to the Extra Mural Program or the Canadian Cancer Society.
As per Peter’s wishes, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Funeral mass will take place at Holy Family Church on Monday, January 26th 2015 at 2:00 pm.
