Arthur Thompson, 84, of Union St., Bathurst, died Saturday (January 1, 2005) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, after lengthy illness.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late James Wilford and Ann Elizabeth (Campbell) Thompson.
He served in World War II, with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Canada, Labrador and overseas. In his early years, he taught Sunday School and later became a Church Elder at the First United Church, Bathurst. He worked for the former Consolidated Bathurst Paper Mill and was a member of the company's Quarter Century Club.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Besides his wife, the former Lillian Groat, he is survived by: One son: Ross Thompson (Karen) of Moncton; Three grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason and Matthew; Several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Doris Scott.
The body is resting at Elhatton's Funeral Home, Bathurst. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday afternoon (January 4, 2005) at 2:00 p.m. from the First United Church, St. Patrick St., Bathurst. Burial will be in the United Church Cemetery, Bridge St.
Visiting hours are Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and on Tuesday from the Church one hour before the Funeral.
A Legion service will be held from the Funeral Home on Monday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
