Bathurst - Alfred J. Roy, formerly of Lakeside Ave, passed away on Wednesday March 15, 2017, at the Robert L. Knowles Veterans Unit, Bathurst, at the age of 90. Born in JacquetRiver, he was the son of the late Wilfred F. and Laura (Doucet) Roy.
He was a miner for most of his life. Alfred was a World War II veteran with the Royal Canadian Army and member of the Herman J. Good, VC Branch 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen (Devereaux) Roy in 1965 and is survived by nine children: Charlie (Denise) of Big River, Hazel Daigle (Aurele), Donnie (Cathy),Jackie (Marie) and Loretta Roy (Adelard Drysdale) of Bathurst, Roger (Denise) of Beresford, Kenny (Nicole) of North Tetagouche, Anne Pitre (Jean Claude Bertin) of Shediac and Bonnie Oar (Paul) of Beckley, West Virginia, USA.
Ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Four brothers: Steward of Dalhousie, Danny (Glennis) of Brisbane, Australia, Sheldon (Shirley) of Oshawa, ON. and Floyd (Norma) of Charlo.
Three sisters: Helen Poirier (Wilfred) of Dalhousie, Sophia Furlotte (Norman) of Charlo and Lauza Guitard (Allyson) of Belledune. Several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six sisters: Jenny, Adeline, Lilly, Margaret, Hazel and Agatha and a brother, Thomas Steward.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday March 30, 2017, at 2 p.m. from Holy Family Church, Bathurst.
Donations in memory of Alfred may be made to the Robert L. Knowles Veteran’s Unit or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. The family would like to thank Diane Pennell and all the staff at the Robert L. Knowles Veterans Unit for their wonderful care and compassion given to Alfred during his stay there.
