Bathurst - Lyman Smith, 78, formerly of Morrison Ct., Bathurst, passed away on Wednesday August 8, 2018, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.
Born in Sackville Point, NB, he was the son of the late John and Dorothy (Coombs) Smith.
A carpenter and draftsman by trade, Lyman worked as a teacher for most of his life completing his career as Head of the Industrial Arts Department at Bathurst High School, was a member of the St. John, No. 27, F&AM of the Masonic Order and member of the Bathurst Shriner’s. He will be remembered as someone who enjoyed time in his workshop creating for family and friends, photography and nature.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Joan D. (Tower) Smith in 2017.
He is survived by two children: Shari Smith-Ellis (Peter) of Janeville and Scott Smith (Karen) of Calgary, AB and one grandson, Jackson Smith.
One sister, Bessie Chapman of Riverview, NB.
Two sisters-in-law, Elaine Smith of Port Elgin, NB and
Deb Boran (Tom) of Pugwash Point, NS.
Two brothers-in-law, Gary Tower (Liz) of Amherst, NS and Jim Betts of Lower Sackville, NS.
Several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was pre-deceased by two brothers, Wallace, Keith and sister Beatrice.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 2 p.m. from Spruce Grove Union Cemetery, Bridge St. Bathurst. Family and friends are welcome to a Celebration of Life reception between 3 and 5 p.m. which will be held at 2586 Queen Elizabeth Dr., Bathurst. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com). Donations in memory of Lyman may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
