It is with profound sadness that the family of Hannah A MacDonald of Sunset Drive in Bathurst NB announces her passing peacefully on Monday, May 17, 2021 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 86. Hannah was predeceased by her late husband, James Sr. In 2006.

Born in 1934 in Sydney Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Jessie Mae (MacDonald) Pyke.

Hannah is survived by her son, James Jr. (Derna Henry) of Bathurst, NB daughters: Joanne Aube (Jacques) and Jacqueline “Jackie” Spin of Fredericton, NB her brothers: Archie (Elinor) MacDonald, Jackie (Margaret) Pyke, Arthur “Beanie” Pyke; sisters, Dora Burke (the late Owen Scott), all from Sydney NS and Katherine “Kay” Fitzgerald of Bathurst.

Grandchildren Meagan Aube of Quispamsis NB, and Scott Aube, Fredericton. Hannah also had many cousins, nephews and nieces who she loved dearly.

Besides her parents, Hannah was predeceased by her brother, Angus and sister-in-law Charlotte (“Lovie”), sisters Hennie Anne (Albertus “Bert”) Spin, Josephine (Roddie) MacDonald, and Margret Corbett.

Hannah also had a second family who loved and welcomed her with open arms, future father-in-law and mother-in-law Edgar and Joyce Henry of Little River NB, along with their son Darren, sisters Shelley and Lisa and Derna’s daughters, Cathleen and Jennifer of Bathurst, NB and all the grandchildren who loved her so much as she loved them.

Hannah worked at Kmart for 25 years and was the manager of their cafeteria until her retirement. She enjoyed her long walks every day and she always made sure that everyone had a large supply of chocolates, as one of her favourite sayings were, “even tho people are sweet, a box of chocolates will always make them sweeter.”

Hannah’s family would like to thank the many caregivers who supported her during this brief illness, especially her family doctor, Dr. Patrick Eddie and doctors Nick Ault and J. P. Arseneau. We would also like to thank the nurses and staff of 4th East of the Chaleur Regional Hospital and especially the Palliative Care Unit who treated her with love, respect and dignity right to the very end. We would also like to send a special thanks to palliative care nurse, Daniel. As busy as he was, he always took the time to explain everything that he possibly could to help us understand her condition on a daily basis and to reassure us that he and the rest of the team would give her the best care possible, which they did, so from the entire family, we would like to express our deepest gratitude.

Relatives and friends are invited to a public visitation on Thursday May 20th, 2021 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.  Masks are required to enter the funeral home and physical distancing measures will be in place. Funeral service will be held on Friday May 21st from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel by invitation only.

Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery on Bridge Street. For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a favorite charity.
