Armand Bertin, 79, of Riverside Dr., Bathurst, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday (November 8, 2005) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst. Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Emelie (St. Laurent) Bertin. Armand Served in World War II with the Merchant Navy on several different ships. He was a long time member of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst. Even though in failing health, he made every effort to attend Legion Services for his comrades. After residing and working in Montreal for a number of years after the war, he moved back to Bathurst and was employed as a Stationery Engineer at Bathurst High School until his retirement. It is interesting to not that his homestead on Riverside Drive is over a century old and was a former Marine Hospital or convalescent center for sick sailors of foreign sailing ships docking in Bathurst. The Van Der Pluijm and DeJongs are descendents of two of the sailors who remained in Bathurst after their ships left port. Armand is survived by: One brother: Antonio Bertin (Edna) of Bathurst One sister: Yvonne Dallien (Peter) of Port Hawkesbury, NS He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Maurice and Aurele. At his request, there will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday morning (November 12, 2005) at 11:00 a.m. from Elhatton's Funeral Home Chapel with Father Greg Culligan officiating, with a reception to follow the service. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery. A Legion Service will be held from the Funeral Home Chapel in conjunction with the Funeral.
