Bathurst - It is with great sadness that the family of Gloria Jean Brillant announce her passing after a brief illness at the age of 82, on Saturday April 29, 2023, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst.
Gloria was born Saint John, NB to her late parents Stella (Lavigne) and Charles Crilley.
Growing up in Saint John, NB, Gloria enjoyed many outdoor sports and activities especially baseball. She spent rainy afternoons in movie theatres with her sister Doris or her friend Peggy. She began working in her teen years to help support the family. Gloria worked at the chocolate factory, the laundry and the tea factory. This must be where her love of tea began as she always had a pot going on the stove. She briefly lived in Fredericton, NB, where she began her family with Jacques Brillant and then moved to Bathurst, NB in her mid twenties where she was employed at Canada Post, but her true desire was to be a full-time mom. In her leisure time, Gloria enjoyed Saturday night dances at the legion, gardening, and baking. Later in life, Gloria grew a love for watching baseball, curling, tennis, plus playing bingo.
Gloria is survived by her children: Denise Brillant of Ottawa, ON , Kathleen (James) Warwick of Carleton Place, ON, David Brillant of Oromocto, NB, Lysa (Jeffrey Carroll) Brillant of Saskatoon, SK, Rachel (Denis) Bertin of Bathurst, NB. Grandchildren Kristopher Lelliott (Aleksandra Baykova) Jeremy (Amanda) Brillant, Justin Arseneau, Rachelle-Anne (Richard Ramcharan) Mailloux, Melanie Warwick, Jessica Brillant, Samuel Warwick (Christi Scheeres) as well as great grandchildren Phoebe Godin-Arseneau, Charlie Brillant, Eleanor Lelliott, Sienna Lelliott.
Her loving brother Bernard (Betty) Crilley of Halifax, NS, sister Linda Crilley of Saint John, NB, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her companion and friend Gordon Lavigne, sister Doris Burke, brother Ronald Crilley, step-brother Donald Crilley, and step-sister Marjorie Monahan.
We would like to extend our gratitude to friends and extended family for their words of love and support. Special thanks to Dr. Eve-Marie Boudreau, and the palliative nursing team, especially Wanda and Daniel at Chaleur Regional Hospital. We greatly appreciated their compassion and comfort they provided for our mother.
