At the age of 76 and after a lengthy struggle with multiple health issues Roy took his last step from this world peacefully and surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Peace River Hospital, Alberta.

Roy was born in, 1949 in Bathurst, New Brunswick, to Hilda & Sterne Glendenning. He attended both downshore and town schools with family and friends. Summers were spent doing farmwork and later in his teens labourer work on ships arriving at Bathurst harbour.

Roy joined the army at age 19 and served 12 years in Cornwall, CFB Lahr, West Germany and CFB Calgary including UN posting to Cyprus. In 1980 he changed uniforms to join RCMP in Calgary and in 1984 he transferred to Peace River Alberta where he retired in 2001 with 20 years of service. Roy spent his leisure time mainly outdoors either hunting, fishing or entertaining and teaching his grandchildren about life.

Roy is survived by his wife of 54 years Myra (Nicol), children: Jason (Rhonda), Sherry Atkinson (Robin) and Chad (Joanne). Sisters: Arlene Melanson, Delcie Carey (Cecil) and Dawn Scott (Stafford). Grandchildren: Justin (Jasmine), Kolton, and Kyle (Brennah) Atkinson; Brandon (Mykenzie) and Darian Glendenning; Emer (Keagan) and Manissa (Anthony) Glendenning; Sarah & Ashton Kyle; Alix and Chance Fenner. Great grandchildren: Odin, Xavier, Grayson, Anya, Admadeis, Maverick, Emri, Kamrin, Breyre; Numerous extended family and friends across Canada.

At Roy’s request, there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Canadian Diabetes Society, Canadian Liver Foundation or foundation of your choice.

Thanks to Dr. Mildenberger and to the staff at Peace River, Fairview and Grande Prairie hospitals for their wonderful support and assistance over the many extended stays during his rough days. Thanks to the home care nurses who did their best to provide cheer and medical assistance along the way.
