It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the death of Joseph Edward Everett Melanson, which occurred peacefully on Sunday April 13, 2025, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 85.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of Napoleon and Irene (Waters) Melanson.
Everyone knew Everett as a gentle and kind man who was easy to love. He will forever be missed by his loving partner Linda (Chamberlain) and children Jason (Pauline) of Napanee ON, Jamie and Sheri (Steven) of Moncton. His grandchildren Anthony (Ocean), Alysha, Joshua, Jenna, Joshua, Christopher, great-grandchildren Monica, Hayden and Elias will always remember their Poppy and his love for them.
He is predeceased by his wife Julia (Morrison), sister Helen (Harvey) and son Darrell.
Everett’s career with Noranda Exploration began in 1959, working in the bush, running survey lines and eventually transitioning into his role as Laboratory Supervisor for the Assay Lab. Everett’s work and the people he worked with were an important part of his life.
Everett loved sports. Nicknamed ‘The Goose’, he was pitcher for many softball teams, brought home numerous bowling and dart trophies and has been known to slide stones down the rink a time or two.
Everett also loved lobster.
A Celebration of Everett’s life will be held at the Elhatton Funeral Chapel, Friday April 25, 2025, at 2pm. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home in Bathurst.
