Bathurst … Mrs. Joanne Smith, 67, wife of the late Donald Smith, of Bathurst, passed away on Saturday (January 26, 2008) at her residence, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Fredericton, she was the daughter of the late Royden and Sarah (Forbes) Turner.
She graduated from Saint John High School in 1958, then graduated from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. She lived in Belledune from 1967 till 1988, then moved to Bathurst in 1989 and worked at the Chaleur Regional Hospital for 10 years, retiring in 1998. She was a volunteer Librarian at the Belledune Library and avid gardener, and she enjoyed photography and family travel. She was a member of Saint George's Anglican Church and the Church Alter Guild, Bathurst.

Nieces; Joanne (McDonald) Peck of Burlington, ON, Janice (McDonald) Sulymka of Ancaster, ON, and one nephew; Jeffrey McDonald of Dundas, ON. Several great-nieces and one great-nephew.
She was pre-deceased by two daughters; Heather & Cheryl.
The body will rest after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Elhatton's Funeral Home(www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday afternoon (January 30, 2008) at 2:00 p.m. from Saint George's Anglican Church, King Ave., Bathurst. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Church Cemetery, Upham, NB, in the spring. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. For anyone wishing to send tokens of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a favorite charity.
