BATHURST, NB – George F. Godin husband of Helen Young of Vanier Blvd in Bathurst passed away on Sunday 28 December at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Halifax. Born in South Bathurst (Dumaresq Street) on October 26, 1936, George was the eldest of the late Alfred (1975) and the late Thérèse (Chiasson - 2005) Godin of East Bathurst.
Besides his wife, he leaves behind his two sons, Derrick (Michele Horne) Godin of Orleans, ON and André Godin (Nadia Doucet) of Madran, NB and Renée Bourque, Helen’s daughter of Dundas ON. He is also survived by his brothers: Laurent (Claudette Bertin), Roger (Opale Arseneau) and Jean-Claude, all of Bathurst and his sisters: Jeannette Pascon, of Saint John, NB, Patricia (Donald) St-Pierre of Hamstead, NB and Alice of Alfred, ON and his four grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, Dominique and Geneviève whom he adored. He also leaves behind his brothers-in-law Lino Pascon, Michel Gingras, Roger (Christine) Young and Ronald (Lois) Young and sisters-in law, Barbara (late Edgar - 2008) Lavigne, Norma Jean (Bernie) Aubie and Janet Young all of Bathurst and the mother of his children, Corinne (Lavigne) Hachey of Bathurst, and dear friends Sister Stella Kennah and Michèle Chénier who are like family.
George belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Msgr William Varrily Council number 12031, trustee three year and was a third degree knight. He was also involved in preparing with church liturgies and was always available to give a hand elsewhere. He was a selfless man and did not know the word “No”.
His body will rest after 2 pm on Tuesday December 30 at the Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Decembrer 31, 2008 at 11 am from the Holy Family church, St Peter’s avenue, Bathurst.
Donations in memory of George may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation or a favourite charity.
Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday, December 30 , 2008, and Wednesday from 9 am until time of funeral.
