Irene Babin - It is with great sadness that the Babin family wish to announce the passing of their mother, Irene Babin which occurred on May 20, 2009 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst at the age of 87.
Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late William and Clara (Degrasse) Duguay. She was one of eleven children.
Irene is survived by her four children:
Diane Babineau (Emile);
Ron Babin (Shirley);
Bob Babin (Brenda), all of Bathurst;
Colette Quaife (Art) of California;
Four sisters:
Eva Deschamps;
Evelyn Charles;
Anita Schoular;
Edna Chatrand of Montreal;
Ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Roe Babin in 1997;
Four brothers, Alfred, Paul, Ernest, and Edgar Duguay and one sister Rita Nagy.
Irene's first job was at W.J. Cormier grocery store in East Bathurst, then she worked as a sales representative at the old Sears store on Main St. She then went on to work in the credit department at Kmart and later with the Social Services Department as a home maker. In earlier years, she was a Girl Guide Leader and was a member of former East Bathurst C.W.L. and the Golden Age Club.
Irene was an avid card player and especially loved playing Duplicate Bridge. She enjoyed entertaining and socializing at any opportunity and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning (May 23, 2009) at 11 a.m. from the Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave, Bathurst. Donations in memory of Irene may be made to a charity of the donors choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
