Mervin John Smith, 92, of Canobie, died Thursday (March 11, 2004) at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes after a lengthy illness.
Born in Canobie, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Jane (Jagoe) Smith.
He was the founder of Doris Fish Shop' in Salmon Beach, worked as a farmer, fish buyer, woodsman, community veterinarian and also worked for the former Northern Machine Works/SMI.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

16 Grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Doris Coombs in 2003, 4 sisters, Lila, Florence, Iris, Ida and 4 infant brothers: Chester, Gordon, Leslie and Arthur.
The body rested at Elhatton's Funeral Home, Bathurst. Funeral Service was held on Saturday afternoon (March 13, 2004) at 2:00 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Alban's Cemetery, Bridge St. Bathurst later in the spring.
