Raymond Francis Veniot
Raymond passed away peacefully on November 21st, 2009 at the age of 86. He was born on Sept 23, 1923 in Bathurst, the son of the late Dr. Leonard Veniot and Venolea (Vautour) Veniot .
He was predeceased by his wife Helena (O’Neil) and son Allan (Nicole) and by brothers Paul (Dorothy), and Cyrille.
He is survived by three sons Daniel (Pam), Ross and Neil and by one daughter Sharron Willard (Jack), five grandchildren Kevin, Jonathan, Kayla, Lauryn and Shanleigh. He is also survived by brothers John (Cecile), Martin and sisters Lucille Deslauriers (late Denis) and Marie Buch (late Al).
Ray was a quiet man who was very devoted to his family. He particularly enjoyed the O`Neil family get togethers, where music and singsongs were great fun.
Ray attended St. Francis Xavier University where he played on both the football and hockey teams. He served in the navy in World War II. He had a great love of reading and sports. He was an avid curler, having skipped his teams to many championships, including the Maritime Jr. Championship in 1956.
He always bragged that he worked for the City of Bathurst for 68 years … 34 years at the water treatment plant and 34 years as a volunteer fire fighter.
He was a member of the Herman J. Good VC Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion for 52 years.
The body will rest after 2 p.m. Monday at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon (November 24, 2009) at 2 p.m. from Holy Family Church, St. Peter Ave., Bathurst.
Visiting hours are Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Tuesday from noon until time of Funeral.
