It is with great sadness that the family announce the death of Mrs. Irène Halley, wife of Gilles Halley, of Beresford, which occurred Tuesday (September 14, 2010) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, at the age of 67, after a long fight against cancer.
Irene was the daughter of the late Clarence Chamberlain and of the late Eva Doiron.
Irene is survived by her husband, Gilles, daughter; Chantal (Yves Plouffe) and a son; Stéphane both of Ottawa, Ont. Two brothers; Léonce (late Bibiane) and Valmond (Jacqueline Robichaud) both of Bathurst. Four sisters; Yvonne Mundy (late John) of Sarnia, Ont., Évangéline (late Jos Thibodeau) of Beresford, Jeannette (Denis Hémond) of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Jeannita (late Ken McCarthy) of Erin, Ont. Several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by a sister; Yvette (late Pat Dumas).
Irène worked in Montréal for Cunard Company in Vancouver and in England for several lawyers for over 25 years and later with Brunswick Mines in Human Resources and was a member of the company’s Quarter Century Club and secretary for Noranda Group Retirement Association.
She was a member of two Mining Provincial Championships Curling teams and two time winner of the ‘’Potash Cup’’. She also won two bowling Provincial Championships, including the Provincial Golden Age Championship.
Irene with her husband Gilles and other couples was in charge of marriage preparation sessions so young couples could be better prepared for their conjugal life. She visited many women in the Bathurst area who underwent a mastectomy and participated in many “Walk for Life” in Bathurst and Petit-Rocher. She was a volunteer for many years regional committee of CIMM (Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy), she received the national decoration of Friend of the Institute. She was also a well known volunteer in the Beresford area for preparing meals in the Church basement and was a member of the “Filles d’Isabelle” of Beresford.
The family will receive relatives and friends after 2 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home (www.mfheritage.com), Beresford. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning (September 18, 2010) at 11 a.m. from Eglise St. Nom de Jesus, Beresford. Visiting hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral.
