Bathurst - It is with great sadness that the family announce the death of Alton Sargent, 97, which occurred Friday (November 5, 2010) with his family at his side, at the Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes, Bathurst, and formerly of North Tetagouche.
Born in Janeville, he was the son of the late Matthew and Martha (McCarthy) Sargent.
He was the husband of the late Marguerite Kerr and his second wife, late Lillian Beauchamp.
He was a farmer for most of his life and later worked for the Moncton Times & Transcript until his retirement. Alton was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by: Two children; Eleanor Carlson (Carl) of Bathurst and Ralph Sargent (Louise) of Montreal, QC. 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by 2 children; Gordon Sargent, Reta Simard Sargent, 4 brothers; Gerald, Willie, Byron, Burton, 5 sisters; Ellen "Nellie", Della, Marjorie, Dorothy and Florence.
There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday morning (November 8, 2010) at 11 a.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roderick Black officiating, with a reception to follow. Donations in memory of Alton may be made to Saint George's Anglican Church or a favorite charity.
