Sister Marie Bourque, rhsj, passed away on Friday (May 27, 2011) at the infirmary of the Notre Dame de l’Assomption residence of the Religieuses Hospitalières de St. Joseph, Vallée Lourdes Drive in Bathurst at the age of 77 years and 5 months, in her 50th year of religious community life.
Born in Cocagne, NB, she was the daughter of the late Albénie D. Bourque and the late Marguerite Goguen.
Besides her congregational family, she is survived by:
One brother, Ola (Phyllis LeBlanc) of Cocagne. Three sisters, Rita (late Pascal Bourgeois) of Shediac, Anna (late Hector Légère) of Grade-Digue and Ethel (late Paul LeBlanc) of Ste-Anne-de-Kent. Three sisters-in-law, Dolorèse Calhoum (late Damien Bourque), Shirley Roy (late Antoine Bourque) and Imelda LeBlanc (late Marcel Bourque). Several nieces and nephews whom she loved and they loved her.
She was pre-deceased by 5 brothers, Aldéric (infancy 1927), Aldéric (infancy 1929), Antoine, Damien and Marcel.
Sister Marie Bourque entered the order of the Religieuses Hospitalières de St-Joseph on August 19, 1959 and took her vows to the order on August 22, 2961.
After graduation, Sister Marie taught school for several years before entering the religious order. She later graduated from the School of Nursing in Edmundston in 1971. In 1974 she received her BAC of Nursing in Ottawa. She worked in our hospitals in Lameque, Caraquet and Villa Saint-Joseph in Yarmouth, NS. In Brantville, she worked in many different level of pastoral life. During the last few years of active life, Sr. Marie Bourque worked as a hygienic nurse in the Caraquet and Tracadie-Sheila regions. In 2004 she retired to the Maison Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, where she continued to work in her limited capability.
Visitations are Sunday after 2 p.m. from at the Notre de l’Assomption Residence, 2144 Vallée-Lourdes Dr. Bathurst.
There will be a Prayer Virgil on Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be from the Religieuses Hospitalières Chapel, on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.
