Bathurst - Cornelius Doucet, 80, of Brideau Ave., Bathurst, which occurred following a brief courageous battle against cancer, which occurred Wednesday (July 20, 2011) at his residence.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Adelard and Martina (Legacy) Doucet.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of 50 years Gloria (Doucet) Doucet in 2009.
He served in the Korean War and was a member of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst. He owned and operated the former Superior Janitor Services for many years. As a member of the Alcohol Anonymous (AA), he very proudly celebrated 50 years of sobriety in November of 2010 and his legacy will continue to help other in their hard journey’s. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing.
He was a wonderful father of three children; Monique (Jean Marc Pitre) of Bathurst, Michel (Nicole) Doucet of Alcida and Lucianne (Normand) Brideau of Bathurst. Cornelius was a proud and doting "Pépère" of 6 grand-children; Eldest Nadine Pitre, Jeffrey and Cindel-Lee Doucet, Mathieu Pitre, Vanessa-Lee Brideau and Danika-Emily Brideau of Bathurst. Two very special great-grandchildren, Philippe Pitre McDonald and Heidi Doucet. He also leaves behind one sister; Jean Richards of Atholville, NB. As well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, also many nieces and nephews.
Cornelius was predeceases by one grandson; Bruno, brothers; Edgar, Joe Albert, Gerald, Adelard, sisters; Florence and Bernice.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday evening only from 7 to 9 at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday morning (July 25, 2011) at 11:00 from Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bathurst. Donations in memory of Cornelius may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a favorite charity. A Legion Service will be held on Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. from the Funeral Home.
