Bathurst – Mrs. Simone Howell, 81, wife of the late Leo Howell, of the Villa Chaleur, Bathurst, passed away peacefully at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst on Sunday (October 9, 2011) after a brief illness.
Born in Dalhousie, she was the daughter of the late Agapit and Roseanne (Brideau) Plourde.
She was an active member and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Herman J. Good, V.C. Br. 18, Royal Canadian Legion, Bathurst, member of the Holy Family Catholic Women’s League, Bathurst and was employee at W.J. Kent and K-Mart, serving all with her trademark smile.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years; Leo Howell in 2009 and will be sadly missed by many, including her girls; Gail Godin (Helen), Donna Dobson (David), Pauline Chamberlain (Claude) all of Bathurst and Louise Mercier (Gerald) of Calgary. She will be sadly missed by her six grandchildren; Lori (Clifford), Peter (Julia), Melissa and Erica, Matthew and Nathan. Two great-grandchildren; Tristan and Hailey. Son-in-law;
William Godin of Landry Office. Many nieces, nephews, extended family from across the country and numerous friends.
Known lovingly as Mum, Mamie or Sim, Simone was a compassionate, loving and trusted confidante to those who had the pleasure of knowing her; she took great pleasure in sharing her zest for life, of good food and a good laugh.
Visitations will be held at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral service will be held Thursday (October 13, 2011) at 2 pm at Elhatton's Funeral Home Chapel.
