Bathurst - Mr. Charles Edward Veniot, 87, passed away peacefully at Chaleur Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 15, 2012.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Alfred Stanislaus and the late Marie Jeanne (Gautreau) Veniot.
Charlie was an electrician at the Bathurst Pulp and Paper Mill for 35 years. As a young man, he attended St. Francis Xavier University and was on the St. FX hockey team. In his twenties he continued as an avid sportsman and played for several years with the Bathurst Papermakers.
Charlie loved music, especially jazz from the 40's and 50's, and was never one to shy away from the dance floor.
He is survived by his five children: Mark of Calgary, Alberta, David of Almonte, Ontario, Clare of Brooklyn, New York, Eric of Moncton, New Brunswick and John of Ottawa, Ontario.
Ten grandchildren: Ryan ,Matthew, Danny, Scott, Kelly, Sasha, Gabriel, Griffyn, Isla and Lilly.
He was predeceased by his three brothers Gerald, Edgar and Clair and one sister Winifred.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to his sister-in-law and loyal friend, May Veniot, and to the staff of the Residence Boudreau in Bathurst for their kind support and friendship which they provided Charlie as he resided there for the last few years. As well, the family is very grateful to Dr. Raymond Richard who was Charlie's prime medical caregiver for many years.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Cathedral on Thursday, August 9th at 2:00pm.
